I have always believed that reading books can expand the mind, touch the heart, and enrich the soul. They can also cause your imagination to do some funny things at times. I can remember several years ago reading a book where the hero went through several tragedies and at one point in the midst of his pain and torment cried out: “Where is Love?”. At that moment in my imagination I leapt into the story, grabbed him by the arm and told him: “It’s everywhere! It’s everywhere!” Love is everywhere. You just have to open your heart to see it.
For me it is there every time I watch the dawn break upon a new day. It is there every time a brisk winter breeze blows across my face. It is there in the first flower of Spring. It is there in the green grass of Summer. It is there in the last leaf of Fall. It is there every time my handicapped(残疾的) sons give me a hug. It is there every time my daughter laughs at one of my dumb jokes. It is there in the adoring eyes of my old beagle and my new puppy. It is there in the purring cat that naps on my chest. It is there in the smile of the clerk behind the counter. It is there in the old man who opens a door for me. It is there when I read a letter from a friend. It is there every time I pray. It is there in everything I write and every act of kindness I do.
The Bible tells us that “God is Love.” And since God is without beginning or end, then so is love. It fills all of His creation. It fills us as well every time we open our hearts and souls to it. Don’t shut out love then. Don’t live your life in pain. Open your heart instead. Share your love instead. You will find that the more love you give away, the more love you will have. You will find that the more love you share, the more God’s love will surround you. You will find that when you live your life in love, you will find love everywhere.

Smith called in some architects in Palm some years ago and asked them what it would take to design a public school that used 50 percent less energy, cost much less to build and obviously improved student learning. “I think half of them fell off their chairs,” Smith says.
Smith manages school facilities for his county, a district roughly the size of Massachusetts. By 2018, 143,000 additional students will enter the already crowded public-education system. Smith needs 73 new schools to house them. Four architecture teams have nearly finished designing primary school prototypes (样品); they plan to construct their schools starting in 2012. The district will then assess how well the schools perform, and three winners will copy those designs in 50 to 70 new buildings.
Green schools are appearing all over, but in Smith’s county, which stands out for its vastness, such aggressive targets are difficult because design requirements like more natural light for students go against the realities of a desert climate. “One of the biggest challenges is getting the right site orientation (朝向),” Mark, a director at SH Architecture, says. His company recently completed a high school in Palm. “You have the same building, same set of windows, but if its orientation is incorrect and it faces the sun, it will be really expensive to cool.”
Surprisingly, the man responsible for one of the most progressive green-design competitions has doubts about ideas of eco-friendly buildings. “I don’t believe in the new green religion,” Smith says. “Some of the building technologies that you get are impractical. I’m interested in those that work.” But he wouldn’t mind if some green features inspire students. He says he hopes to set up green energy systems that allow them to learn about the process of harvesting wind and solar power. “You never know what’s going to start the interest of a child to study math and science,” he says.
28. How did the architects react to Smith’s design requirements?
A. They lost balance in excitement B. They expressed little interest
C. They showed strong disbelief D. They burst into cheers
29. Which order of steps is followed in carrying out the project?
A. Design---Prototype—Assessment---Construction
B. Assessment---Prototype---Design---Construction
C. Assessment---Design---Prototype—Construction
D. Design---Assessment---Prototype---Construction
30. ______ makes it different to build green schools in Smith’s country.
A. The large size B. Limited facilities
C. Poor natural resources D. The desert climate
31. What does Smith think of the ideas of green schools?
A. Out of date B. Questionable C. Advanced D. Practical
D
When it comes to the influence the digital age has on this generation of American teenagers, there has been a good one and a not-so-good one, teachers say. More than 2,000 teachers took an online survey. Three-quarters of the teachers said the Internet and digital search tools have had a “mostly positive” effect on their students’ research habits and skills. But 64 percent said the technologies "do more to distract students than to help them academically.” And 87 percent agreed that these technologies are creating an “easily distracted generation with short attention spans.”
The Pew Internet Project did the survey with the National Writing Project. Judy Buchanan is a vice director of the National Writing Project and a co-author of the report. Ms. Buchanan says digital research tools are helping students learn more and faster. “Teachers really favor these tools because they are ways to make some of learning exciting and engaging. Young people favor these tools. The goal is to really help them become creative of meaningful content, and not just sort of consumers.”
But one problem the survey found is that many students lack digital literacy. They trust too much of the information they find on the Internet. Judy says these students haven’t developed the skills to determine the quality of online information.” It’s something that really has to be taught and paid attention to. Because in a world in which things happen quickly, you do need to step back, reflect and analyze the information you have.”
Another problem is blamed on something that might not seem like a problem at all: being able to quickly find information online. Teachers say the result is a reduction in the desire and ability of their students to work hard to find answers. They say students are overly dependent on search engines and do not make enough use of printed books or research librarians.
Many teachers are also concerned that the Internet makes it easy for students to copy work done by others, instead of using their own abilities.
32. The next mainly tells us ________.
A. all the students use digital tools B. the Internet is playing a key role
C. teachers encourage using digital tools D. digital tools bring about benefits and problems
33. The underlined sentence in the third paragraph probably means_______.
A. students do not have the right digital tools
B. students do not always have access to the Internet
C. students haven’t the ability to adjust themselves
D. students can’t judge online information properly
34. Some students don’t tend to work hard because ________.
A. they can get answers on the Internet quickly
B. printed books and libraries around aren’t enough
C. the Internet can’t make students concentrate
D. they can copy each others’ work without being punished
35. Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?

I’m very sorry to hear that you are in a difficult situation and you are upset about how to improve the learning effects .Now I’d like to give you some advice on the problem.
To begin with, you should learn how to learn efficiently and practice some effective learning methods, such as previewing lessons, getting actively involved in class, and reviewing what has been taught after class, which really have benefited me a lot. In addition, just as an old saying goes, A watched pot never boils. Therefore, too great inner worries won’t help. Instead, you will feel depressed and frustrated. However, in the long run, only if you stick to the good learning practice will you improve your learning effects greatly and achieve our academic goals.
I hope you will find these suggestions helpful.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Hua
