With the rapid development of modern science, computers havebeenplaying a more important role in our daily lives. It is suchaworldwide trend that there is no exception for Chinese.
Many people regard the computer as the magic machine. It cansolvemany problems quickly and efficiently, and best of all, itcantranslate all kinds of languages. By using the computer you canjustput ail the original versions into it and then you will getthe fasttranslation. So some parents raise doubts about thenecessity fortheir children to learn foreign languages so hard anymore.
At first thought, it seems that the computers can really helpusto do so. But if you look in- sue the matter deeply, you may findadifferent answer. First of all, machines can never replacemankind.Computers are created by man and are controlled by humanbrains. Wecan never rely too much on machines; otherwise we willbecome theslave of them one day. On the contrary, we need to enrichourknowledge as much as possible so that we can catch up with thefastpace of the world. It is very necessary to learn more languagessoas to upgrade our abilities to follow the progress oftheworld.
And furthermore, it will do good to children if they learnmorelanguages. Both their brain and their thinking modules canbenefitfrom it. When they grow up, they can easily accept variouskinds ofcultures and communicate with foreigners, which canfavorablyenhance the mutual understanding and developinternationalbrotherhood.
So, we can clearly see that, though computers can begoodtranslators, people still need to learn more languages with aviewto improving their abilities and facilitating theirfuturecommunication with people from othercultures.

The key (core, essential) question in this topic is at what time a child should start to learn a foreign language. Thinking carefully, I find this question is not as simple as many people have thought because it is closely associated with such factors as teachers, teaching environment, and the like. Hence, it is illogical to give an absolute answer.
The first thing I am talking about in this essay is about learning a foreign language in primary schools. However, asking children to learn a foreign language during this period of time demands many things. On the one hand, children must be interested in this language. Otherwise, it would be harmful to force them to study. My own case in childhood is an example. At primary school, teachers and parents forced me to learn English, which I hated. As a result, today English is a disaster to me. On the other hand, the primary school must be able to provide enough teachers who have lived or learned in a foreign country for at least half a year. If so, it might be favorable for primary school students.

Secondly, I would like to study the case of learning a foreign language in secondary school. Like what has been talked in the paragraph above, students’ interest in learning a language must be further emphasized. However, the real picture is that many students are neither motivated nor encouraged to study but are seriously stressed by various foreign language tests, which are boring and dull. For instance, the endless English tests in my high school were horrible nightmares. In this case students are not learning the language but learning the test tricks. Ironically, some language training centers or organizations hook students by claiming their “outstanding” test tricks in such tests as Ielts, GRE, or TOEFL. Admittedly, if possible, it would be a great advantage for teenagers to learn a foreign language in secondary school. This is because the best time to learn a foreign language is, according to experts, between 11 and 16 years old. That is in the secondary school.
To sum up, some should start to learn in the primary school while others should do in the secondary school.

Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?
Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages属于传统的对某一观点或做法的利弊发表看法并进行论证的形式。
Most parents and teachers believe that kids should start language learning in their middleschools. However, some elementary schools also provide foreign language learning as a test in educational field. Obviously, it contains positive as well as negative influence. Lingual skills from primary education are always based on the great interests kid's obtained in expressing their feelings. The strong motivation helps students acquire language with ease and fun, and then their unshaped mother language will also remove the barrier between one language and another. More importantly, without exerted pressing stress from tests and exams, students may devote themselves to language itself but nothing else
However, the primary education for language learning is not as perfect as it sounds. The overly flexible timetable for language learning will never ensure that children have mastered some key features of lingual skills. Compared with that, secondary school will supply more professional lessons with accurate teaching from which children can benefit a lot. However, if so, this activity will entirely ruin the interests of language learning for kids, which shift their flexible foreign language interests into the forced and test-oriented study all the time. Thus, this should never be put into practice for a better result until secondary schools. Obviously, primary school should also make some revolutionary changes for a better lingual atmosphere to cater to kids' interests.
In sum, all the contributions made to optimize language learning will benefit both individuals as well as the community, culturally and traditionally, so the adjustments in primary education will be the key to solve this educational problem.

“As part of education, students should spend a period of time studying and living in a different country to learn its language and culture. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

The idea that one should spend time studying and living in a foreign country in order to learn its language and culture could be both a truth and a myth.

Living in the foreign country, one has more opportunities to talk with native speakers so that their listening and speaking skills can be improved quickly. What a student learns from books often does not include some useful everyday words and unique lifestyle that could only be learned by personally interacting with local people. Furthermore, one is motivated, or even forced to learn what is necessary to survive—the ability to understand the language and culture of the foreign country. That is why a lot of students seem to think that studying and living in a different country means that they automatically learn the country’s language and culture.

While going to another country may be a good strategy to master a foreign language (particularly regarding listening and speaking) and culture, it is not necessarily so. Without sufficient motivation, one may benefit little from his/her experience in a foreign country, a fact that has been proved by numerous failed overseas students. Contrarily, if one has the motivation, one might just as well learn a foreign language and culture in one’s own home country from TV, video, and the Internet. It is actually an option safer and cheaper.
