  1. Friendship

Friendship is the most precious thing in the world. No gold can buy I; no force can compel it. Everyone may have friendship no matter who he is, rich or poor, black or white, and male or female. Friendship is a warm hand when you are in trouble. Friendship is a happy song when you succeed.

True friendship is rare, and the only way to get to it is through our own efforts. Show our true love and care for others and always be faithful to our friends. We should remember a friend in need is a friend indeed. When we seek friendship, we should never care about someone’s power and money. Treasure the true friendship that has built because they are difficult to gain in life.

  2.College Students and Learning

Some students don’t like to study. They are more interested in doing other kind of practical work or relaxing and enjoying themselves. They say that it is no use learning the knowledge from textbooks when you won’t use this at all in your whole life. Even when you look for a job, they won’t pay much attention to your academic records. They put more emphasis on who you are, where you are from and whom you know.

In fact, it is very important for college students to study hard. Firstly, a college student without much knowledge wouldn’t be very useful to the society. What he can reward the society is very little. Secondly, he may hardly find a good job and live a respectable life on account of lack of knowledge. This is also a great loss to himself when he couldn’t find a place in the society. Finally, college students are young and energetic and a college provides the best place for them to grasp science and technology. If they can make full use of time, they are certain to learn something and improve themselves. Therefore, college students should realize the importance of learning and try to obtain as much knowledge as possible.

Different people have different hobbies. Hobbies are activities in which one participates for amusement. It mainly depends on one’s interest and character.

There is no doubt that hobbies have a great influence on people’s life and society. Good hobbies can benefit people in many ways. You should pay attention to some questions during the interview. First of all, you are expected to dress properly. The right clothes worn at the right time can win the respect of the interviewer. The first and lasting impressions of you is partly determined by the clothes you wear. Secondly, you should pay close attention to your manner of speaking. Since speech is a reflection of personality, you should try to speak in a clear and loud voice to show your confidence. Finally, you should make full preparation for the position you are applying for. Talking about it in a professional way will impress the interviewer deeply. If you take all the problems into account, you will probably succeed in a job interview.

Many people have realized the importance of regular physical exercises. Physical exercises increase the blood circulation. It can strengthen our muscles and make our bodies strong. Physical exercises may prevent us from getting too fat and keep us healthy. Anyone who does not have a good health, can do nothing for his country.

Sports can promote international communication and understanding. It is believed that international sports may create goodwill between nations. If countries play together they will learn to live together. Understanding comes from contact. International sports give different nations a chance to get to know each other. In this way, different countries may have better understanding between each other.

  6. The Positive and Negative Effects of Computers

Computers are being used more and more extensively in the world today. They are far more efficient than human beings and have much better memories. They can store huge amounts of information and can do very complicated calculations. In fact, computers can do many of the things we do, but faster and better.

However, the negative aspects of a computer-controlled world have also been shown clearly. First, the computer virus can destroy millions of machines in a minute. This often results in the tremendous loss of data in the machine. Moreover, a completely new kind of crime has appeared. Some extremely intelligent people who know how a computer works --- the computer “experts” --- make huge amounts of money by cheating a computer, and it is very difficult to catch them.

  7. The Problem of Heavy Traffic

With the development of economy and increase of population, cities in China have become increasingly crowded. As a result, streets are full of cars, buses and bicycles. This makes traffic jams a common encounter for many people. It certainly causes much inconvenience and waste of time and efficiency.

There are some possible solutions to the problem. First of all, more investment should be put into the building of more highways to receive the heavy traffic flow on the streets. Next, more fly-over should be built to help pedestrians to pass the streets safely and cars and buses pass smoothly in the crowded areas.

  8. Good Manners

It is important to be with good manners when we come into contact with others. A person with good manners is always an agreeable companion, because he always thinks of others and respects others. If we are polite, kind, and helpful to others, we will be able to win over many friends. On the contrary, rude behaviors often lose friends and make life difficult.

College students should learn to be with good manners in everyday life. Respect others and be friendly to those around us will certainly bring us great benefit. Good manners are, in fact, ways, by which to show people our respect and politeness and are absolutely not difficult to learn. What is more important is to learn to really polite to others.

  9. Forest Fire

Most forest fires are caused by human carelessness. Careless smokers are responsible for thousands of forest fires each year. Many of these are started when cigarette ends and matches are thrown from automobiles, Hunters, fishermen, or woods workers who are careless with their smoking materials may also cause forest fires.

Forest fires can be caused by nature. The most important natural cause of fire is lightening. This accounts for 11 percent of forest fires in the world. According to some studies, in the tropical areas, lightening causes a much higher percentage of fires than it does in elsewhere.

Forest fires have already brought about great losses to nations. Measures must be taken to protect or control the forest fires.

  10. Knowledge and Diploma

People usually connect knowledge with diploma. When you have got a certain amount of knowledge in a school or a university, you can get a diploma. A diploma is a ruler to measure whether a person is qualified after studying for a period of time.

However, it doesn’t mean a person with rich knowledge should have a diploma. A person can get knowledge by himself --- studying or in practice. So a diploma cannot be used to measure a person’s ability for a certain job. On the other hand, we cannot take it for granted that a person with a siploma is knowledgeable. Some people make false diploma and even buy diplomas by money.

Knowledge and diploma do have some connections, but we cannot judge a person only by his diploma.

  11. Competition and Cooperation

Competition is very important since we live in a highly competitive society. Competition means people try to perform better than others at everything they do. People compete for the best university, the best job, and even the best house. To some extent, competition is one of the motive forces of the development of society.

At the same time, cooperation is also necessary for us. If a person cannot work with others well, he can hardly achieve any success. A football team can’t win a match unless each member can learn to cooperate with each other. In fact, competition and cooperation often go hand in hand. In some cases, we can’t do competition without cooperation. They are equally important.

  12. About Smoking

Attitude towards smoking vary from person to person. Some think smoking does more harm than good to smokers, and even to those who are expose to the smoking environment but do not smoke themselves. Heavy smokers are often found in various troubles. For example, they often suffer from lung cancer. Non-smokers, when expected to smoking now and then, will probably have a serious cough. Smoking does great harm to one’s health.

However, others have a different opinion. They believe that non-smokers can also suffer from such diseases. Moreover, smoking can help one to concentrate one’s attention. Some people are so addict to it that they cannot work or live without cigarettes. Furthermore, they think a cigarette is a good way to start a social activity.

We are puzzled when we are facing so many different attitudes. We often feel lost as to whose advice to follow. On the one hand, we are afraid that someday we will catch a disease of this kind or that kind. On the other hand, we are worried that without a cigarette, how can we start this with others, especially with strangers? It is hard to say whose idea is absolutely right.

  13. The Advantages and Disadvantages of Internet

With the development of computers, the Internet has become widely used. On the one hand, the Internet shows us a closer and wider world than ever before. Through the Internet we can discuss international crisis, football matches, or viewpoints on everything with known or unknown people. The world seems smaller than before. Just staying at home, we can get all kinds of useful and latest information we need. We can do shopping, book tickets, look for a job and so on. On a word, Internet makes our life more convenient.

However, on the other hand, Internet has also brought us many problems. First of all, there is too much rubbish on the net. A lot of useless and bad information is sent to us. It has led to the increasing difficulty in finding what we want. Moreover, time is wasted on playing games, and sometimes we become addicted to Internet without being able to come out of it.

In my opinion, Internet plays a very important role in our modern life. There is no doubt that Internet has contributed and will contribute greatly to our life. When we use it, we must be cautious of its effects upon us.

  14. Advertisement

Advertisements exist widely in our daily life. No matter where and when we see them in newspapers magazines, on TV and radio, and even on the streets and buildings. We have to believe the fact that where there is a person there is an advertisement. Advertisements have almost become a part of our life. Nowadays we can hardly imagine what would happen if there were no advertisements.

Advertisements do have some effects on us. Advertisements are very useful to customers. They may inform the customers of the latest information about a new product, and what is on sale, how much it costs, and where to buy. However, some advertisements may mislead customers by using part of the truth to suggest something false.

We should have a right attitude towards advertisements. First, we should weigh the truth of an advertisement. Then we ought to ask ourselves “What do we really need to buy?”. If we can do these, advertisements will add more colors in our life.

  15. Diligence Is the Key to Success

Diligence is an important factor to one’s success. As the proverb says, “Rome was not built in a day”, knowledge cannot be acquired in a short time. Since knowledge is accumulated little by little, it is advisable for young people to study diligently. We all know “No pains, no gains”. Without hardworking, there is no success.

Laziness is most harmful. It makes us useless because if we do not study and work hard we shall not be able to earn a living in the society. It doesn’t matter if you are not very clever. Diligence can make up for the lack of intelligence. But if you are very lazy, you are hopeless. We cannot imagine a lazy man can make any success.

However, some people believe in luck. They think it is one’s luck that determined one’s success. They believe those who have achieved success only because of good luck. They just wait for such a chance. In fact, there is no royal road to success. Diligence is the key to success.

16.Positive and Negative Aspects of Sports

Going to sports is an important part of our life. We often play football or enjoy other outdoor activities in our free time. There are two major aspects of sports, good and bad.

In the positive aspect, sport helps us strengthen our physical body and build our competitive and cooperative mind. By enjoying it, we also can relax ourselves. On the other hand, in the negative aspect, sport may throw us into the risk of getting ourselves hurt. Some immoral people use sports for such bad purposes as gambling, and these things can be often seen from the screen and newspapers.

I like sport because it always gives me chances to enjoy myself. When I kick the ball into the goal in a football game, I feel that I am the hero and I think everyone likes that feeling. Why still waiting there? Join us in the sports now!

  17. My Most Favorite Program

My most favorite TV program is “To Tell the Truth”. It is shown on CCTV-2 every Saturday evening. The program is a free conversation about some special topic. Those who are concerned or interested in the topic are invited to discuss about it. They can express their own points of view, just as the name of the program suggests.

The topic of the program is close to our daily life, that is to say, most people are concerned about it and something to say. So, there are always some penetrating remarks, which make the program really alive. Besides, the compere of the program, Mr.Cui Yongyuan, is an intelligent and well-mannered man with a good sense of humor. It is him that makes the program even more interesting and attractive.

I am fond of this program because it helps me to understand things around us to a deeper level, and more importantly, gives me some good advice on may of them.

  18. Can Money Buy Happiness?

At present, quite a few people think money is the source of happiness. It sounds good because, with enough money, you can buy what you want and what can make your life easy and comfortable. Therefore, many people think money is the basis of happiness.

On the contrary, there is a famous saying that money is the root of all evil. Many people die for money, lie for money, fight for money, and even sell their souls to Devil in desire of money. All these evils, which may cause city crimes to large scale, are under the very control of money.

In my opinion, money itself can neither buy happiness nor cause evil. It is the attitude toward money that determines whether it is good or evil. To treat money with an ordinary mind will help you to get happiness. Besides, it should be always remembered that one should earn legally and use it properly.

  19.Environmental Pollution

Our living conditions are getting worse and worse because of the pollution of our environment. Waste water running out of the factories has polluted the sources of water, such as rivers and seas. Waste gases coming from factories and cars have polluted the air. Both polluted water and air are harmful to our health and do great damage to our surroundings.

It is very necessary to take measures to protect our environment. Much considerations and serious researches should be done to ensure some measures be found in the near future. All human beings share the earth and its resources. If we don’t take any actions to slow down the environmental pollution, we may hardly survive in the world some day.

Some measures have been checked and cars should be equipped with special devices to reduce auto emissions(散发)。
