Glenn Frey曾是70年代美国最伟大的乐队Eagles(老鹰乐队)的核心成员及主唱之一。1979年乐队解散之后，Glenn Frey开始单独发展，1982年发表的首张个人专辑《No Fun Aloud》产生了多首排行榜前40位的单曲，其中就包括被张国荣翻唱为《梦里蓝天》的这首被公认为不朽的经典英文情歌的《The One You Love》。

1948年11月6日，格列·弗雷出生于底特律，在罗亚尔奥克附近长大，成长过程中伴随着汽车城的声音和硬派摇滚。格列·弗雷曾成功说服硬摇滚歌手鲍勃·希格(Bob Seger)给自己的乐队the Mushrooms写一首歌，并在鲍勃·希格的第一首热歌“Ramblin' Gamblin' Man”中担任和声。
后来格列·弗雷跟随当时的女友Joan Silwin搬到了洛杉矶，并在洛杉矶结识John David Souther。不久后格列·弗雷就跟John David Souther共同租房住在东洛杉矶，跟他们住在一起的还有一位词曲作者Jackson Browne，这三人迅速“打入”洛杉矶当地的摇滚夜总会。不过格列·弗雷跟David Souther组成的二人演唱组“Longbranch Pennywhistle”并不成功，这个短命组合在1969年发行了一张专辑后迅速解散。
