A fouryearold boy has become pen pals with Britain's Queen Elizabeth.Tom Stancombe started exchanging letters with the queen after he set free a balloon, carrying his name and address,at a school party and it landed in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The queen spotted the balloon and asked her personal assistant,Angela Kelly,to write a letter on her behalf.

She wrote,“The queen was delighted to find that your balloon had traveled all the way to the gardens at Windsor Castle.”

Tom,who proudly put the letter on his wall, wrote back to say that his great, great grandfather, the artist Petrus Johannes Arundzen, had been commissioned (正式委托) to copy Dutch masters' on display at Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.

Angela at once replied that she would contact the Royal Collection to find out what had happened to the art works. She kept her word and two weeks later wrote to Tom to tell him what had happened to the etchings, explaining they now form part of the print collection in the Print Library.

Angela then asked a favor of Tom,writing,“Would you be able to ask your Mummy and Daddy for me if they know anything more about your great, great grandfather.Royal Collection would love to know more about him.”

Along with his parents,Tom wrote back to fill in all the gaps about Petrus Johannes Arundzen.

Although Tom's parents don't think there will be any more letters exchanged between the pair, they were touched that she had taken time to contact them.

Tom's father said,“I don't expect we'll get another one,but I think it's incredible they bothered replying at all.”

B.try to deal with the friendship naturally but refuse to do anything about it

C.don't take the matter very seriously

  Ⅲ.篇章结构

  (2011•北京东城区第一学期期末)

  Making Peace with Your Parents

As a teen, you're going through big changes physically and mentally. Your interests are expanding.__1__

Here is the challenge:Kids need to explore the world in new ways, and parents need to protect them from the dangers that all out in that world. These conflicts can easily set off fireworks in otherwise calm houses. Sometimes conflicts can't be avoided. But by paying attention to the building blocks of successful relationships, you can work towards making home a happy and healthy place for you and your parents.

For instance, try to find a time to talk when your parents all not angry, tired, distracted, or hungry. A good time to talk is when you're all relaxed. Timing is everything. If the conversation begins to turn into an argument, you'd better calmly and coolly ask to stop the conversation—for now.__2__ Listen to what your parents are saying, and repeat it back to them. This shows them that you're listening.__3__.

Respect is the building block of good communication. People who respect each other and care about each others' feelings call disagree without things getting ugly.

__4__ How do you build trust? Trust comes by actually doing what you say you're going to do. Some teens find that doing fun activities with their parents can improve their relationships. Sometimes we forget that parents are more than rulemakers—they're interesting people who like to watch movies. And go shopping—just like their teenagers!

What do you do if you are trying your best, but your relationship with your parents continues to be rocky?__5__ You can find supportive adults, such as a teacher or a coach, who can lend an ear.

Remember you can only change your own behavior. Your parents are the only ones who can change theirs.

A.It also gives them a chance to clear things up if you're not on the same page.

B.You can pick it up again when everyone's more relaxed.

C.And then you'll be able to accept what your parents say.

D.Faced with the challenge, children don't know what to do.

E.You are more likely to get along with your parents and have more independence if your parents believe in you.
